Cory “Happy the Barber” Gilmour, owner of Dapper Don Barber Lounge in Santa Ana, has showcased his commitment to giving back to the community during the coronavirus pandemic. Together with his fellow barbers, he decided to head out to the park to offer their skills by providing haircuts. They have been hosting “Haircuts for the Homeless” events, with the most recent taking place on Sunday, July 26, where free haircuts, including stylish fades, were offered to those in need. Following new restrictions on indoor businesses, Gilmour held the event outside at Sasscer Park in downtown Santa Ana. "With everything going on in the world, I just wanted to bring peace and happiness and give back to the community," Gilmour stated. "Times are hard for people that can’t get what they need. I want to try to give back to those in need." Alongside the free haircuts, Dapper Don Barber Lounge also provided lunch, water, toiletries, and clothing. Chris Hart, 28, sporting an overgrown beard and long, shoulder-length brown hair, took a seat in the barber chair and said, "Cut it all off." Gilmour quipped, "It’s your lucky day! I brought my lawnmower today." He hopes to offer these haircuts, including hot towel shaves, every month in the future, though he has only been able to do so every other month. "When things get back to normal, I’ll do this every month," he added. By the end of the day, 22 people had received a much-needed haircut and enjoyed some pizza, thanks to the generosity of Dapper Don.
