Cory “Happy the Barber” Gilmour, owner of Dapper Don Barber Lounge in Santa Ana said he wanted to give back to his community during the coronavirus pandemic, so he and his fellow barbers headed out to the park to help by doing what they do best: Giving a haircut. They have been holding “Haircuts for the Homeless” events, the latest on Sunday, July 26, to give free haircuts to those who needed them. Because of the newest restrictions on indoor businesses, Gilmore held the event outside at Sasscer Park in downtown Santa Ana.“ With everything going on in the world, I just wanted to bring peace and happiness and give back to the community,” Gilmore said. “Times are hard for people that can’t get things that are suitable for their needs. I want to try to give back to those in need.” In addition to the free haircuts, Dapper Don Barber Lounge provided lunch along with water, toiletries and clothing. Chris Hart, 28, who had an overgrown beard and long, shoulder-length brown hair, sat down in the chair and said: “Cut it all off.” Gilmore teased: “It’s your lucky day! I brought my lawnmower today.” Gilmour said he would like to offer the haircuts every month, but he’s only been able to do it every other month. “When things get back to normal, I’ll do this every month.” By the end of the day, 22 people had enjoyed a haircut and some pizza.
