Cory “Happy the Barber” Gilmour, owner of Dapper Don Barber Lounge in Santa Ana, expressed his desire to give back to the community during the coronavirus pandemic. He and his fellow barbers decided to head out to the park to help by doing what they do best: providing haircuts. They have been organizing “Haircuts for the Homeless” events, with the latest taking place on Sunday, July 26, where they offered free haircuts to those in need. Due to the newest restrictions on indoor businesses, Gilmour held the event outside at Sasscer Park in downtown Santa Ana. "With everything going on in the world, I just wanted to bring peace and happiness and give back to the community," Gilmour said. "Times are hard for people that can’t get things that are suitable for their needs. I want to try to give back to those in need." In addition to the free haircuts, Dapper Don Barber Lounge provided lunch, water, toiletries, and clothing. Chris Hart, 28, who had an overgrown beard and long, shoulder-length brown hair, sat down in the chair and said, "Cut it all off." Gilmour teased, "It’s your lucky day! I brought my lawnmower today." He hopes to offer these haircuts, including stylish fades, every month in the future, but has only been able to do so every other month. "When things get back to normal, I’ll do this every month," he added. By the end of the day, 22 people had enjoyed a haircut and some pizza, thanks to the kindness of Dapper Don.
